Hell, Healing, Resistance

Bloody century was a long story and I found a lot of gory portrayals of war in it. The story goes through every war that the United States participated in starting at World War 1 and ends with the US intervention of Central America. In each of these sections the author places quotes and letters of veterans who had fought in the wars. In the World War 1 section it explains the real causes of the war opposing the noted causes students had learned in their high school history classes. It then goes into letters sent home by a soldier who ends up dieing while in war. Then the story portrays an excerpt from the book Johnny get his gun. In this excerpt it depicts a soldier with no limbs and face. The soldier asks to be brought to school houses to show the children how they will be treated in war. After reading this I became nauseous from the excerpt, it made me think to my self about being deployed and being put in that situation. This was very shocking for me and I had a moment were I asked my self am I doing the right thing to fight for my country. After the excerpt the story then brings up World War 2 and goes in to saying that the history books were wrong again. The section then gives more portrayals of the war. It mostly focuses on the war in Russia. The next section of the story was about Vietnam. This section gives a little history about the war but then gives the story of a death row inmate that had saw the war as a change in him. This story goes into the disgusting details of Vietnam and sort of relates the gory parts of the story Lee. The next two sections go in depth with the gulf war and Central American intervention. Theses sections go on telling the reader about the wars and giving them details. In many ways the author of this book was right in naming the chapter bloody century, the reason is that he goes in depth with all the wars we had since the 1900 and it has been a bloody century.
