I chose the song "Don't Change" by Musiq Soulchild because it shows how love conquers all. The song also says that even though a person may physically change you can still love them the same way as the day you fell in love. In addition, this song has a great beat and it is easy to listen to. Within the song there are metaphors, imaginary, and hyperbole.
Metaphors, which compare two unlike ideas, are delicately worded in "Don't Change." "So let me reassure you darling that my feelings are truly unconditional" compares feelings and unconditional. This metaphor expresses how much the artist thinks that the love he has for his woman is beyond limits. "So don't waste your time worrying "bout the small things ain't relevant to me," is also a metaphor because it compares wasting and time. The artist shows how his lover should not worry about anything in life because he will always take care of whatever problems might occur, whether big or small. Another metaphor is " Cause honestly I believe that beauty is way more than skin deep." It compares beauty and skin. This phrase, which shows that even if someone is not very beautiful it is not the most important thing, there are other qualities. Most people in love cherish qualities other than beauty, for example, honesty and trust. The metaphors in this song are very powerful and speak eloquently on love and what love stands for.
Imaginary, descriptive language used to re-create sensory experiences, are also plentiful. " See I"ll love you when your hair turns gray" is imaginary because it recreates an image of love over time. This phrase emphasizes how the author's love will be the same as the day they met and it will be the same until the end of time. "I"ll still want you if you gain a little weight" shows how his love will be the same when his lover changes physically. As you can see, this excerpt shows how his love will be the same even if she is physically less appealing to most people.
