A cell can easily be compared to the city of New York. With a city so big come different jobs and functions. Most of all, both structures, the city and the cell have a huge amount of importance. .
One of the most important parts of the plant cell is its nucleus. It is the control center of the cell, where every other function of the cell is controlled. In New York City, the control center is City Hall, where Mayor Bloomberg works and generally runs the whole city. Inside the nucleus is the nucleolus, which is a group of ribosome. The ribosome is the protein synthesis. The ribosome is compared to individual people because of it being individual parts of strength. Thus, the group of ribosome is compared to a group of people as one body or voice. Surrounding the nucleus and regulating the things that come in and out of it is the nuclear envelope. The nuclear envelope checks and allows certain things to come in and out of the nucleus. This is like the Department of Immigration of New York City, or further back, Ellis Island. The Department of Immigration, like Ellis Island, determined whether immigrating people were allowed to come into the country or not. .
Looking closer into the run of the city you see a transportation system, banks, a power plant, bridges, computers, phones, post office trucks, lots and lots of food. All these things are necessary for a developed city to run. Cells too, need a transportation system, a storage system, a connection system and food. Different organelles take these jobs. The endoplasmic reticulum in a cell is the basic transportation system. It takes things throughout the cell. This can be compared to a train system, such as the Long Island Rail Road, and also very important, a taxi line. Without these, people who live far away or need to walk a long way cannot get to their designation. .
People are able to get electricity and work done with the city's power service, Con Edison.
