            Integrating Learning and Professional Practice.

Choose one of the cases u have presented in this portfolio and describe the main issues of power and oppression in this case? I n what ways was your work specifically anti-discriminatory? Give two or three specific examples of what would you have done differently, with hindsight, in terms of promoting anti-discriminatory practice?.
Referring back to case summary C attending the cit-wide meeting for older people and then chairing the members meeting at the day centre.
The older people were faced with enormous oppression under the power of people who were running the city-wide meeting, I felt although the olders were there to air their views and make changes for the better in their lives there were still constraints.
I realise that because of resources, time, and funding are a lot to do with present day situations, but I thought about empowerment and were they gaining any at such a prestigious event, no, as there was no feedback from previous meetings to show their point had been taken on board or even thought about.
Oppression is huge for this vulnerable group of society.
Whilst doing the members meeting I felt that there oppression and power but it was more related to the group dynamics.
I feel my work was anti-discriminatory as I tried to encourage clients to have more consideration for others, I expressed the importance of having a responsibility as a person, and everybody's view was just as important as theirs.
I made sure that I was very equal in listening and commenting to all in the group and offering advice on their views, in situations they could control themselves I felt I gave them the opportunity by providing them with the resources, empowering them.
An emphasis on the commonalities of problems and situations and the concomitant commonality of feelings to which they give rise. In-group work each issue that is raised, even when that issue at first glance seems to have no relevance to others in the group, does have applicability for all.
