The Accidental President

David Kaplan's book, The Accidental President: How 413 Lawyers, 9 Supreme Court Justices, and 5,963,110 Floridians (Give or Take a Few) Landed George W. Bush in the White House, covers the United States presidential elections of 2000. Although one may think otherwise from the title, this book is not another anti-bush tirade. The book gives the immediate sentiment of neutrality "to a certain degree: it does not immediately deride Bush or Gore. Rather, this book concentrates on telling the complete story of the entire election of the 43rd president, and its many downfalls and errors. George Bush is the subject of some criticism, but it is mainly because he is the final (elected into office) outcome of this circus-like fiasco. .
The major issue here is simply how George W. Bush landed in the White House. Kaplan goes in depth with sources and research to bring factual basis to the argument along with opinions from him and other distinguished commentators of this political event. Both sides of the argument "the Republicans and Democrats "have their own idea of what went "wrong- in Florida. The Gore-supporters denounce the Florida incident as an outrageous shame in America's government system, denying Gore possibly "thousands- of potential supporting votes. Bush-supporters respond reasonably that the lost votes could very well be "thousands- more votes supporting Bush. .
The United States public was then in a state of confusion as the answer to the presidential question could not be clearly decided. As the political spectacle came to order, Bush emerged as the "winner."" Although, many do question how much of a winner Bush could be as only half the nation supports him. Bush's team is analyzed, speculating who has the voice in what. There is the usual "Cheney runs the show- type of comments in this book, also. .
Kaplan's book can give one a truly solid background into the leadership and order of our government.
