Abortion

An article by Debra Rosenberg in Newsweek reviews the latest debates around Peterson murder case, which started a new era in fetus law and gave abortion opponents an opportunity to strength. The politics of the womb are becoming ever more personal and complex. The main idea of this article is that it is necessary to accept a law protecting fetus and even embryo as human been and it votes against embryo medical search. Based on that case where Scott Peterson faces two murder charges, for his wife and unborn son, and some other cases, lawmakers are trying to headway bills concerning any termination of pregnancy, wanted or unwanted. If child is unwanted than abortion is an act against God, but that is between people and God. If child is unwanted than law against abortion is an act against human rights.
According to Random House Webster's College Dictionary, abortion is defined as "the removal of an embryo or fetus from the uterus in order to end a pregnancy" (4). Since the early 1900's, abortion has been a highly controversial topic in society. However, the first monumental case concerning abortion, Roe v. Wade, wasn't until 1973. In this case, a woman by the name of Roe took the law dealing with abortions to court. At this time, the law stated that abortions were illegal unless the female's life was in jeopardy. The case ended up going to the Supreme Court where it ruled that the 14th Amendment gives women the right to personal freedoms and it can not impede on her decision on whether or not to keep the baby until after 13 weeks. However, after those 13 weeks, the states have the right to regulate the baby's termination (Roe v. Wade, 1).This case was crucial because it legalized abortions and gave women the right to choose. .
Today 28 states criminalize harm to fetus. Congress is expected to pass the Unborn Victims of Violence Act, now called Laci and Conner's Law after Paterson case.
