Why is it a growing problem? Well one answer is that these police officers are still at their jobs. In most cases officers are demoted, given angry management classes, or simply given a slap on the wrist, but never prosecuted for the crimes they commit. A historic in 1998 report called USA: Rights for All issued by Amnesty International, says, "The disciplinary sanctions imposed on officers found guilty of brutality are frequently inadequate, and officers are rarely prosecuted for using excessive force. With these officers still on the streets the probability of an incident are incredibly high. If these officers think they can get away with such acts what going make them stop from doing something worst. This growing problem seems to have no end in sight unless something is done to convict these criminal police officers. Now out all the thousand reports there is a stunning fact over 3/4 of all the reports were made by minority civilians.
In a nation that has gone through so much racial problems, today's racial differences aren't nearly what they used to be. So why is there still racial profiling? Ok let me explain what racial profiling is. In the book Driving While Black, it defines racial profiling as a tactic of stopping someone only because of the color of his or her skin and a fleeting suspicion that the person is engaging in criminal behavior. Racial profiling is a relatively new word but the practice is an extremely old one. One of the worst and well-known cases is the Rodney King beating. King was in a high-speed chase and was apparently drunk. When he finally stopped he was ordered out of his car, at first he ignored the officers order then got out of his car and did a little dance and talked gibberish. The commanding officer ordered him to the ground but King refused and the officers then swarmed him and tried to bring him to the ground, but after King shook them off his was shot twice with a stun gun.
