To me, an education is absolutely necessary in order to have a successful career. A lot of students graduating from high school are so relieved just to be out of school that they would not think twice about continuing their education. They start working and enjoy the money, and find it not necessary to go to college because they feel they are just fine where they are at in their job and in their life. But are they really going to be happy working there for the rest of their lives? And then there is always the promise that they will go to school later. I have heard more people tell me that it is so hard to go back to school after you have a family, than it is to go when you are still young and have fewer responsibilities. Not only could you lose your current job, but finding another one could be harder than you think. By that I mean large corporations will rarely even recognize someone without some type of degree. Rather it be a two-year Associates degree, or a four-year Bachelor's degree, anything is better than nothing at all. So you tell yourself that you are in a job that you feel very secure with and you feel that you will not lose it. Fine, but without a degree, you will be caught doing the same thing day in and day out with nowhere to go. Also, when the company has to make decisions on promotions do you think it will be the person with the high school diploma or the guy on the second floor with a Bachelor's Degree in Business? Of course, because it just seems to make sense that the guy on the second floor is more qualified. Another viewpoint would be if the company all of a sudden had to cut back and lay off some employees. These are just a few things to think about when considering to further your education. Continuing to go to college also shows dedication. Employees want someone who will strive to do their work to the best of their ability and in a timely manner.
