Capital Punishment now there is a solution.
punishment is the most powerful deterrent of crime ever devised by any form .
of government. Those who are against this convention often say, "its not .
whether or not the criminal deserves to die it is a question of if we have the .
right to kill them." A criminal, who has been subjected to thorough .
investigation and proven without question to be a murderer, bestowed the right .
to kill upon his or herself. Therefore it is only fair that the justice system has .
this power delegated to itself. For justice, the basis for all laws that preserve .
liberty, is as Merriam Webster said, "impartial adjustment of conflicting .
claims". Therefore there must an execution evenly dealt to the murderer for the .
murder committed. .
Some states, such as Alaska, Hawaii, Iowa, Maine, and Michigan, have .
no death penalty. New Hampshire, Montana, and Washington have hanging as .
one of their methods, and the firing squad is one of the methods still used by .
Utah. Ergo the later states have lower crime rates due in part to the deterrent .
power of the threat capitol punishment imposes on potential criminals. Those .
opposed to capital punishment usually believe that the threat of punishment is .
not a valid deterrent for crime regardless of the offense. This issue raises the .
argument to a personal level. Say you wanted to murder someone. You know .
that after you are apprehended there is no chance of being put to death. Will .
you be more likely to commit the premeditated murder? Of course, that is why .
capital punishment is so effective. It automatically eliminates the possibility of anyone, .
who fears capital punishment, from committing whatever murder they are .
meditating on. .
Unfortunately there are 34 states with over 3,000 prisoners convicted of .
murder on death row. According to national statistics only two percent of the .
convicts will be executed within the next year. It costs taxpayers $60,000 per .
