Life, as far as I am concerned is great here. There is very little pressure on us to make money because almost everyone is poor. We are happy to be poor and we don't necessarily strive to make something of ourselves. Most of St. Lucia's economy revolves around tourism and the exportation of banana's. .
.
This weekend a construction crew from Castries, the capital of St. Lucia came into our village and began constructing a new bridge over the river. The old one has began to rot. There is a plaque on the bridge that says that it has been donated by the government of Canada. Often foreign governments help support our infrastructure. .
.
We in St. Lucia cannot support our own infrastructure because most of us don't pay takes because the average GDP per capita is so low. This is due mainly to the general communistic mindset of the citizens here, including myself. We are just too lazy to get a real job.
.
We have a very week government in power at the present time. Our leaders are often voted out of power before their term is up because of the extreme corruption within high-ranking government officials. Over the years, our country has accumulated great dept throughout the international community. .
.
Unfortunately, in St. Lucia, there is a tremendously high birthrate, that inevitable hinders the progression of St. Lucian society. This is due in part to the large unemployment rate, people have noting better to do, dogs are a delicacy down here. I don't even have a job, when I need money for food I drive some tourists around the island for a day. I would make enough money for the entire week. I don't have to pay for my house because my successful brother, who was emigrated to the U.S sends our family money regularly to pay for the care of our mother.
