At a speed of 22 and a half knots the ship moved at 12 metres per second, the stopping distance at that speed was 777 metres.
At 12:45am on April 15th 1912, the first lifeboats were lowered. Each lifeboat had a capacity of 65, but most that were lowered to sea only contained about 20 people. These lifeboats were definitely not used to their full potential. There was not enough lifeboats on board to accomodate all of the passengers. Hans was helping the crew get the lifeboats ready to lower, and he also assisted passengers into their lifeboats, he helped his fiance Carla into lifeboat number 16 and told her he would see her in New York, and that's the last time Carla ever saw her fiance Hans. .
He continued to help load passengers into lifeboats and finally when they got to the last lifeboat (collapsible boat D) he got on along with some other men. As they were getting ready to lower the boat some women came along and he was told by Officer Lightoller to make room for them, so he got out of the lifeboat and back on board the Titanic to let the ladies on. The lifeboat was lowered without Jensen, and he never made it. He sunk with the Titanic along with his dreams and Carla's.
White Star Lines is responsible for the death of Mr. Jensen and many others aboard the Titanic. I think that they failed to keep their passengers safe and operated their ship carelessly. White Star caused the death of over fifteen hundred men, women, and children, a number of whom were third class passengers like Mr. Jensen. .
I think that the defense is definitely liable and at fault for the death rates and responsible for the special and general damages of Ms. Jensen. When the passengers of the Titanic purchased the tickets for their trip, they expected to arrive to their destination (New York) safely. There was a simple contract between the passengers and the White Star Lines. It was breach of contract on White Star Line's part.
