Soccer: U.S. Women vs. The World

We intend to gather information to support our research on why men's soccer lacks popularity in the United States. We are trying to solve the mystery on why the most popular sport in the world is not taken seriously by the U.S. A few experiences that have allowed us to become more familiar with our topic are personal experiences with the sport of soccer, countless hours in the library acquiring knowledge, group work in the classroom and copious amounts of critical thinking.
We intend to learn about the main factors which prevent men's soccer from thriving in the United States. We also intend to gain a perspective on why women's soccer surpasses men's soccer in the U.S. considering the popularity of all other male sports that dominate the popularity of women's sports. The overlapping of popular men's sports, such as baseball, sidetracks viewers from watching soccer. Television stations only televise a few soccer games a year while there is at least four or five different baseball games on in a single day. We intend to follow up on the impact of the media on men's soccer. What if men's soccer was televised as much as baseball?.
Due to the varying ethnicities which make up our class, there should be a wide range of views on the sport. Soccer has laid dormant since its introduction to the United States. Though the U.S. has had a few runs at the world cup in the last few decades, it wasn't enough to maintain dedicated fans. We geographically plan to explore the U.S. but also the rest of the world. Our information is limited due to the fact that men's soccer is not appreciated in the U.S.
We intend to find out if the lack of support contributes to poor play in soccer. What if soccer had media support? What if soccer was taken more seriously in the United States? Do you think male athletes would work harder to obtain excellence? Why is it that men's soccer is popular all over the world and not in the U.
