"Don't scream", he whispered, "and I won't hurt you.".
Patty begged the man as best she could with her mouth covered to let her go. He ignored her pleas and dragged her to his car, tied her hands behind her and set her down in the back seat facing the rear of the car. He then tied her ankles together. .
He drove for approximately twenty minutes then stopped the car somewhere in the desert. He got into the back seat of the car, untied Mary's ankles and told her to remove her clothing. As she did so, the abductor removed his jeans and under shorts but left his t-shirt on.
The abductor wasted no time. The only thing he muttered was, "You can't tell me you haven't done this before", to which Mary replied, "No, I haven't". The man then forced himself upon her and after some initial difficulty in performing, penetrated her and reached a climax.
He then dressed and ordered Mary to dress. He asked her for money and she gave him four one-dollar bills, all that she had. He then drove Mary back to 12th Street and Rose Lane, about four blocks from her home, where he released her. As he left her he said, "Pray for me".
Mary, near hysteria, ran home, her clothing in disarray and her hair mussed. It took fifteen minutes before she could gain control of herself and tell her sister what had happened. Her sister called the police.
A police officer came to the house and Mary was escorted to a hospital to be examined. She had indeed been sexually assaulted. The police took her statement and she consented to a polygraph examination. The police tracked down a few leads but after a few days the case had gotten cold. It began to look as though this would be just one more unsolved crime, which would eventually be forgotten.
THE SUSPECT RETURNS.
Exactly a week after Mary's abduction, the case broke wide open. Although Mary had been frightened and very upset by the attack, she kept her job at the movie theater and continued her routine of taking the bus home after work and getting off at 7th and Marlette.
