I chose to do this essay on AIDS because of how 15 pages of information is needed on a topic on sex and I really don't feel like talking about any penile problems. AIDS is kind of a penile problem I guess but it's also a topic that a lot of people should do since it is vital. But like you said, "we should be worrying about Chlamydia more than AIDS. Oh well though.
First off AIDS is in short for Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome. Acquired means you can get infected with it. Immune Deficiency means a weakness in the body's system that fights diseases. And Syndrome means a group of health problems that make up a disease. That's basically what it means word for word. .
AIDS is caused by the virus called HIV, the Human Immunodeficiency Virus because you don't really get AIDS right away. You get it later on. HIV is the same thing that Magic Johnson has. If you get infected with HIV, your body will try to fight the infection. It will make "antibodies", special molecules that are supposed to fight HIV. And usually they aren't able to fight off the disease because its some sort of strong virus that the body can't kill.(*).
AIDS is mostly known by being acquired through the means of sex. But it can also be conceived through the use of dirty needles, being born from a mother who is infected or drinking breast milk from a mother that is infected. But its weird because some babies that are born from mothers with AIDS are immune to the virus so everything about the virus hasn't been found out. Back in the day people used to get AIDS through blood transfusions in hospitals but now there's screenings and checks to make sure that it doesn't get through. But it also depends on where you live because if you go to Russia you could probably get AIDS from another person because they don't clean there needles. It is possible to get AIDS through oral sex and kissing if there's like open wounds or sores. But it's not likely.
