Cult of Celebrity

 

            Is the cult of celebrities or famous people harming America or any other country? This is a very hard topic to discuss, but as you will read in my following paper I will give you reasons supporting both sides of the question. I will give specific examples of stalker stories and the effects some celebrities have on society and the public. For example, I will discuss the death of Princess Diana, death of R&B singer, Aaliyah, the famous hate lyrics of the rap star Marshall Mather's a.k.a Eminem, and the trauma Steven Spielberg and other famous celebrities had to go through because of their stalkers. I will also talk about the positive effects of the cult of celebrities. I will also discuss how celebrities were able to make our nation come together as one during our nine- eleven incident involving terrorist attacks on our nation.
             So, what exactly is the cult of personality? First of all, the definition of cult is a great devotion to a person, idea, object, movement, or work (as a film or book) or usually small group of people characterized by such devotion. The definition of personality is the totality of an individual's behavioral and emotional characteristics. All in all, the definition of cult of personality could be considered to be a great devotion to an individual or an individual's behavioral and emotional characteristics. This definition will be very important in understanding the following examples and quotes you will read in my paper. .
             I will discuss some popular cults involving famous people we all adore and respect. First, I will discuss the death Princess Diana and effects she had on her country and her people. A direct quote from the British Medical Journal stated, "A rise in the suicide rate in England and Wales followed the funeral of Diana, Princess of Wales." 13 A study from the University of Oxford Centre for Suicide research also discovered that there was a seventeen percent increase in suicides in England and Wales after the princess's death.
