Racial Inequality: Not A Problem

("Race" 3) These are just some of the examples where the minority race in a sport is becoming not only a mainstream acceptance but also the stars of their chosen sport. There is no real way that people can claim that racial inequality is a huge presence in sports today if they sit down and look at the facts.
First of all, when considering how far the African-American athlete has gone, also see how they have moved into the front office and management positions by overcoming past prejudice. While most people argue about coaches facing discrimination for decades, the sports world quietly started to hire more and more minority coaches. Just to name a few past and present front office men in today's sports include: the Chief Executive Officer of the National Collegiate Athletic Association, Head of the National Football League's Players Association, the 1996 Major League Baseball manager of the year, and the general manager of the Philadelphia 76ers, the Boston Celtics, and the New York Yankees(Whicker 109). People cannot say that these men do not have important roles in sports. These are the front office men, but the real coaches down on the field are also becoming more and more racially desegregated. Some examples of African-Americans that have been and still are on the sidelines in college football are as follows. The coach at Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Stanford, the former coach of Stanford, Notre Dame, and the quarterback coach at Nebraska. Professional coaches at Tampa Bay, Green Bay, Philadelphia, Minnesota, and New York are all African-Americans that have just recently been removed from their position, or are still currently coaching(Whicker 109-110). Actually, only two head coaches have ever switched from one team to another between seasons and remained a head coach even though they had losing records with their previous team. One of them is Ray Rhodes, a black man(Cohn 2) So, how can you say that black coaches must have superior performances to be a coach in the National Football League.
