II. Quotations.
"There was none among the myriads of men that existed who would pity or assist me; and should I feel kindness towards my enemies? No: from that moment I declared everlasting war against the species, and, more than all, against him who had formed me and sent me forth to this insupportable misery." Pg 121.
This quote stresses the idea of human injustice towards outsiders. The monster laments over man's cruelty to those who are different. The monster is an outcast and he doesn't belong to human society. He experiences alienation from society, an unfulfilled desire for a companion with whom to share his life, and an ongoing struggle for revenge. It shows that in his creation he had to deal with the struggle of injustice and so he wants to bring injustice to his creator, Victor. It is ironic because the monster was created as some sort of a companion for Victor and then Victor denies his monster a companion of his own. Both of them bring injustice upon each other, and the injustice goes on to affect others around them. .
"I, the miserable and the abandoned, am an abortion, to be spurned at, and kicked, and trampled on. Even now my blood boils at the recollection of this injustice." Page 204.
Walton remembers the words that the monster says to him over Victor's dead body, in his final letter to his sister. This eruption of angry self-pity as the monster questions the injustice of how he has been treated compellingly captures his inner life, giving Walton and the reader a glimpse into the suffering that has motivated his crimes. This line also evokes the motif of abortion, saying that the monster is a creation abandoned and shunned by his creator, an unwanted life. He expresses his anger because of the fact that he was created only to be mistreated without any justification. Therefore the gruesome crimes he committed was to repay the injustice done upon him. .
"So much has been done, exclaimed the soul of Frankenstein - more, far more, will I achieve; treading in steps already marked, I will pioneer a new way, explore unknown powers, and unfold to the world the deepest mysteries of creation.
