The humanity has evolved in a male-centered, patriarchal society. Men were always the main suppliers of food and money, and women were always the ones who had a duty to look after the fire and children. That means that females were dependent on men financially and lost their financial support as a consequence separation, divorce, death or their partner's loss of employment. In today's society, where women are struggling for equal opportunities, opposition is basing its arguments on three myths. They state that work is harmful for females" health, family life, and that women are in general worse workers. However, the most recent researches deny all of those myths and prove that work provides benefits not only for those women but also for their families.
Earlier some scientists believed and spread information that work increased the risk of early death from a heart attack. The recent researches show that these beliefs are not true. The rates of working women who had heart attacks are not bigger than the rates of working men. Moreover, females" health is not suffering because of work but in contrary their lifespan is widening. There is only one group of women who suffer from heart attacks. These women have "low-paying clerical jobs with many demands on them and little control over their working place, who also have several children and little or no support at home" (Barnett, and Rivers, The Myth 185). Most of the researches which prove that working women have heart attacks do not take several important factors into consideration. For example, by the time women have heart attacks; they tend to be older than men. Also few heart researches are done with women; therefore, doctors base their conclusions on the data collected from researches on men. Those researches obviously can be and are not precise.
Moreover, work is not the main reason for stress-related illnesses either. On the contrary, the newest researches show that working females are in better mental state than those not employed.
