In an attempt to deter Americans from reconciling with the British, Paine states that history will repeat itself whereby England will do its best to regain control over its former colonies. He supports this claim by illustrating how England treats its own colonies and how corrupt its government is. However, Paine does not include the downfalls that would result if America were to seek independence. He allows America to bring on a rebellion immediately and blindly by not acknowledging the chaos, the work, and the hardships it must endure in order to finally find use and pleasure in what they obtain. Ergo, Paine's words are not only encouraging but also deceptive and manipulative whereby he pushes and motivates everyone to rebel yet does not have them aware of what is to come. His vague definition of freedom and his general, yet set, rights to which every man is naturally entitled triggers people to have their own interpretation of what freedom means and thus causes them to expand their rights according to it. .
Paine adds fuel to the fire by taking a step further. He claims American independence is inevitable whereby he convinces those who were uncertain about rebelling. He manipulated those who probably were aware of what could possibly result from a rebellion by claiming that whatever happens, rebellion will come to existence no matter what. Paine's words causes people to take their thoughts on freedom and have them expand what preconceived rights they would have. A right to independence and freedom includes the right to resist government regulations and charges since Paine also includes that the American government should be of the weakest sort. Whether Paine expected his writing to have influenced people to this degree, the result is that it did. His words of being a true independent American were sugarcoated with glory and pride, however the truth lies beneath that disguise.
