Was The Collapse Of The Weimar Republic Inevitable?

Chief of these were the monies paid by Germany to the victors of the war, initially set at five billion dollars per year up until 1921. The economic hardship caused by these reparations payments had spread themselves throughout German society. .
The Weimar constitution was actually very democratic. Proportional representation meant that everyone in Germany had some sort of representation. Article 1 of the constitution states that The German Federation is a republic. Political authority is derived from the people. This was very advanced for its era, especially the fact that voting included women suffrage as well as male suffrage. Another good example of it being very democratic in its thinking is article 41, which states that The National President is chosen by the whole German people. Not only could the people choose their own government, but they also had a vote in who led that government. Many historians have said that it was an amazing and bold political idea, of which aspects still survive in today's political systems. Germany had only ever experienced Imperialism and this government was considered to be radical It was the first government ever to give the people a choice. .
Nonetheless there had never been very much popular support for the Weimar government. Many Germans hated the Treaty and the Weimer Republic was blamed for the onerous postwar reparations; although the government itself was modeled after liberal institutions, the stigma of having signed the Treaty of Paris continued to count against it. The Treaty of Versailles seems to have created problems as well as being a problem in itself. Nearly all the problems faced by the Weimer Republic were connected in some way with the Treaty of Versailles. Political problems created economic problems, and then economic problems created social problems, which fuelled political problems by supporting parties which, were against the Weimer Republic.
