These people wish that they were in Richard Cory's place but, to the people's surprise, on one "calm summer night" he commits suicide by shooting himself in the head. ... On first reading this poem it made me feel sad. ... When reading the poem, lines one and three rhyme, as do lines two and four of each stanza. This helps set a steady flow for the poem and adds to the surprise and impact of the last two lines: "And Richard Cory, one calm summer night, Went home and put a bullet through his head." ...

By this point, the reader has already learned all of Wurtzel's life, up to this point, and has traveled with her from her early days of summer camp, to her lonely days of high school, and finally to college life, which was filled with therapy sessions, over doses, and multiple moves from New York, to Texas, and back and forth and back again. ... Having read "Prozac Nation" and enjoying it, I"ll most likely look into reading one of Elizabeth Wurtzel's other books such as "Bitch: In Praise of Difficult Women", and "More, Now, Again: A Memoir of Addiction"....
