Victims are 15 times more likely to experience sexual assault by someone they know than by a stranger and according to The Australian Bureau of Statistics Sexual Assault in Australia: A Statistical Overview (2004) three-quarters of female adults (78%) thought that they had a high chance of being sexual assaulted by a stranger.
