Anti-Semitism goes at least as far back as the day Jesus Christ was sentenced to crucifixion. Followers of Christ blamed the Jewish for the death of their messiah, and so despised them. The Romans kicked the Jews out of Rome for failing to worship the Roman gods, and, when Rome converted to Christianity in the early fourth century, the Jews were certainly not welcome to back; they had even been given the name "Christ killers".
