The beginning of this poem is very unique but we have to note that Eliot was "the master of right beginnings" (Thompson 86). ... The first three lines are ambiguous and the consequence of this meditatory sentence can be that "there is no real present or free future, only a recurrent past" ( Thompson 87). ...
