The people of Uruk started to complain to the Sumerian gods about Gilgamesh's overbearing behavior, and so the gods created Enkidu, to challenge Gilgamesh. Not knowing that Enkidu and Gilgamesh would become best friends, and try to overcome evil together. Gilgamesh says to Enkidu "There dwells in the forest the fierce monster Humbaba, you and I shall kill him" ("The Epic of Gilgamesh" 48). ...
