1. The French Revolution and the Bastille
The majority of those who marched to the Bastille were unskilled laborers such as shop keepers, artisans and other low-wage earners who were basically taxed the majority of their wages on bread alone and hence the previous riots, thusly leading to march at the Bastille in search of weapons to aid their militia. The percentage of their wages these people had to give up on just bread was ridiculous, plus the constant increase in the price between 1730 and 1790 was even more ridiculous.
