The example at the beginning of the chapter reads about Defense Secretary Robert McNamara's negative report to Lyndon Johnson about what was happening in Vietnam, and the very different, very positive reports he gave to the public. The authors of the book wrote "The press reported accurately what McNamara said in his press conferences, but did not get at the truth of what he knew." ... In any case, it is the duty of journalists to report factual information, and truthful/evident interpretations of how that information came to be. ...
