While the wise men only show up once, and are otherwise idle for the rest of the tale, Disney's three matriarchal fairies are in the whole film and end up saving the day by doing nothing but good and generous actions, sacrificing their magic for sixteen years so they could take care of the princess, risking their lives to save the prince from the dungeon and aiding him in slaying the dragon. ... The Prince isn't jailed in any version of the tale and only shows off his athletic ability by running up the stairs of the castle to get to the princess, while in the Disney film, he escapes...
