Grendel's mother only attacks the Heorot hall in order to avenge her son, "is presented as a noble and brave opponent and even as a somewhat sympathetic character," and is later intruded upon due to her seemingly normal act of revenge (83, strange case). According to Bob, she "acts in accordance with the standard Germanic code of blood-revenge," (Might of Grendel's Mom, 83). If Grendel's mother is considered monstrous and evil for committing an act of revenge, than what can we say of Beowulf and the men who follow this same code? ...
