In the next few days after the garden incident Heathcliff all but stopped eating, and spent the nights walking outside. Heathcliff began acting very awkwardly. One day Cathy was happily working on her garden and came across Heathcliff, she was surprised to see him looking "very much excited, and wild, and glad."
