Virtual Reality TechnologyVirtual reality has been around for quite some time, only gaining commercial traction lately. It has always been a goal of the developers of these technologies to bring us closer to what we might otherwise not see or experience. To bring us closer to experience out of a story book or science fiction novel. Becoming a way to change the way anyone can receive information and even changing the way we treat people with anxiety disorders. To be in a world of their imagination and escape reality for a while is probably a dream of many and we might be a lot closer then we think. In 1930, the first mechanical flight simulator was made as a crude version of what you might see today to give pilots hands-on experience without actually having to have plans readily available, plus it's a lot safer to have a newborn pilot train before putting them in dangers way. This was the first attempt at Virtual reality type device. Skip ahead to 1968: MIT develops the first virtual-reality headset; it was |

Movie Character Analysis - Tony Stark in Iron ManIn the film Iron Man (2008), Tony Stark is a diligent young adult, and the CEO of his family's company: Stark Enterprises. Given that he inherited such a large company at such a young age, his personality can be described as narcissistic. However, prior to his successes, he was harbouring the death of his parents, along with his close friend Jarvis. Throughout the film, he deals with a number of traumatic experiences, for instance: nearly dying, and being held captive, which then progresses into his creation of Iron Man, an alter ego he generated through technological advances. Due to his near-death experience and the emotional trauma of losing his parents, Tony could land in the category of people with PTSD. Hence, his recurrent panic attacks and flashbacks. According to the Anxiety and Depression Association of America's website, the symptoms of PTSD can affect a person's relationships, trust, closeness, communication, and problem solving. A few of these symptoms correlate with so |

Modern Technology and CommunicationCommunicating with friends and family is easier now than it has ever been. With the invention of the Internet and cellphones, there are very few reasons for being out of touch. Cellphones make it possible to simply push a button or speak instructions to send a message or make a phone call. The internet allows instant communication in a number of ways, such as email and instant messaging. Modern technology has made staying in touch easier than ever, but the tradition of personalized contact has gone by the wayside. Nowadays most people either have or know someone who has a computer and/or cellphone. It was not so many years ago that in order to write to someone, paper, a pen, an envelope and a postage stamp were needed, then it took several days for the recipient to receive the letter; today's communication is instantaneous, but lacks the warmth of an old fashioned hand written note. In "Class Matters," Janny Scott and David Leonhardt say that "Americans of all sorts are |

Theater Review - RentIn 1989, Jonathan Larson and Billy Aronson collaborated together to work on a musical project which ended up becoming a well-known rock musical titled Rent. Larson later took Rent under his own hands with Aronson's permission; this musical came out on Broadway in 1996 and came out in movie theatres in 2005. Rent, based on Puccini's La Bohème, is about a group of young bohemian artists who battle to make a life and make due in New York's lower east side. It has opened Broadway up to a new social issue, confronting the AIDS crisis directly for the first time in a Broadway musical. It also deals bravely with universal issues such as drug addiction, homosexuality, homelessness, violence, and artistic freedom. Through the music in Rent, Jonathan Larson clearly illustrates the revealing issues of individual authenticity, gender, and politics. Through its lyrics, Rent depicts the characters in their struggle with society while trying to stay true to who they are as a person; this |

A Response to BullyingBullying plays a major role in our school systems and workplaces. The resulting factor of an event that involves bullying is never positive in any way. A victim's life can be ruined and maybe even taken away in the process. Bullying has been around for so many years but with today's technology, television violence, social network, and family poverty, plays a major role in making it easier for kids and adults to become targets of bullying. Coming from a less fortunate family can play a major role in bullying. The bully is all about picking on those he or she thinks is from a less fortunate family than him or herself. Kids or adults who have low incomes or are less fortunate than most other people are mostly the victims of bullying. They are targets of bullying because they do not have the fanciest clothing and the money to live in the most expensive homes. Those that bully others tend to attack victims in areas where they know it is going to hurt. For example, talking about one's clothing, how she or he looks, and the environment they come from (living status) causes the person being bullied to feel ashamed. Speaking from personal exper |

Creative Problem SolvingI. Introduction Creativity and creative problem solving have long been topics of significance. Creative problem solving can be approached in a systematic way and one technique that has found widespread application in the USA and Canada is known as the Osborn-Parnes process. This process was first developed by Alex Osborn who coined the phrase 'Brain-Storming' in the 1950's. Later working with Sid Parnes and others associated with CPSI The Creative Problem Solving Institute the process was fully developed (Byron, K. 2006). According to Tony Proctor (1999, pg. 1), "Creativity involves an ability to come up with new and different viewpoints on a subject". Creative problem solving is process anyone can use to deal with many of life's daily difficulties, opportunities, and tasks. CPS is a simple process that involves breaking down a problem to understand it, generating ideas to solve the problem and evaluating those ideas to find the most effective solutions. Highly creativ |

Online Learning in the Information AgeA world of success, fame, and fortune awaits those who go through society's rite of passage: education. Face-to-face learning is adopted in a traditional classroom where the teacher is the mode of instruction. It is a two-sided approach where teachers and students meet in person for a certain duration of time and the classroom is provided as the setting for them to engage in discussion. Face-to-face learning is generally trusted as the best portal to gain knowledge since time immemorial. Even so, teaching and learning process has been profoundly influenced by the universal access to information. The Internet plays a vital role for the advancement and development of education. The Internet, a colossal network of computers from all over the world that is connected by cable and satellites, is able to put one in a position that is a step above the rest. With the Internet, education is no longer the domain of the elite as the information available on World Wide Web is available freely to an |

Teenagers and Pregnancy: A Social IssueAfter researching various statistics, I found that premarital pregnancy is quite prevalent in teenagers throughout the world. Teen pregnancy is one of the most difficult experiences a young person might ever face when it interrupts school or other plans. It can create an emotional crisis resulting in feelings of shame and fear, and it may appear that you will crumble under pressures in your environment. The stress of how one would break the news to their parents might be even greater, and finding help may seem an impossible task. People might think that they can help others, or one might be too embarrassed to search for help. For the most part, when one sees teenagers raising children, we often think that the teen has been raped or is too mature for their age. For this reason, some totally miss the issues that one must have been exposed to in their society, the society of their home, community, school. There are many viewpoints as to why teenage females are having so many children out |

Fungal Growth - An Observational ReportFungi have a vital position in the plants ecosystems, especially in the association to plants and soils as they exist on earth. The Kingdom Fungi includes some of the most important organisms, both in terms of their ecological and economic roles. By breaking down dead organic material, they continue the cycle of nutrients through the ecosystems. In addition, most vascular plants could not grow with the symbiotic, fungi, or mycorrhizae, that inhabit their roots and supply essential nutrients. Other fungi provide numerous drugs (such as penicillin and other antibiotics), foods like mushroom, truffles and morels, and bubbles in bread, champagne, and beer.[ CITATION Uni06 l 1033 ] This report reviews the results of simple planting of specimens to successfully grow fungus in a moist chamber to study the growth of fungus on organic substrates over a one week period of time. The organic substrates chosen for this particular experiment were inclusive of a banana, milk, orange, cottage che |

Milton's Depiction of Eve in Paradise LostIn the epic poem, Paradise Lost, John Milton depicts Eve as a woman who is solely made for beauty and man. Many readers believe that Milton had trouble with women in his life that contributed to his nearly sexist writings about Eve. Therefore, his perception of women in Paradise Lost is biased due to his experiences. Eve is noted as a selfish woman who committed sin for her gain. John Milton's portrayal of Eve in Paradise Lost is both biased and overbearing due to his personal experiences. In the Bible and Paradise Lost, Eve is unattractive from the start. She is to blame for eating the forbidden fruit and the separation between her and Adam in Book Nine. Although many are not fond of Eve, present day, she is respected in the history of women for her independence and curiosity in the Garden of Eden. Eve is aroused by the forbidden fruit because of its appetizing looks and her curiosity. She feels that if she eats the fruit, she will be wise, maybe even wiser than Adam. Although God co |

Will Your Marriage Last? by Aviva PatzAviva Patz writes "Will Your Marriage Last?" in which she visits with a marriage expert, Ted Huston and learns what makes or breaks a marriage in today's society. Aviva Patz has experienced divorce and a marriage that works and then she hears of Ted Huston, a professor of human ecology and psychology at the University of Texas at Austin. Ted was showcasing a study of married couples over time to try and be able to predict if a marriage will work. Giving a few strong examples on marriages that worked and didn't the author learns that she has experienced both unsuccessful and successful relationships. Unlike the common belief, we as 20th-century kids have grown up believing that the successful marriages are the "Hollywood" type love stories when partners are infatuated with each other and that love never dies. But in the real world |

Adolescent Psychology ProjectAbigail is a 14-year-old female who is currently a freshman in high school. Abigail is part caucasian, part Irish and part Native American. She lives in Athens with her mother and spends every other weekend with her father. She has two brothers who are much older than she is and they do not live at home but she has a younger sister that does. Abigail was very cooperative in the interview and was open about what her life is like at this stage. When describing what life is like, Abigail focused on friends and sports. She feels that things are more challenging now, for example, there is more competition in sport because people are faster and more shape and because there are try-outs. Things outside of school are easier now because she has fewer rules to follow and more responsibility. She is now allowed to go to the mall on her own, something that was not allowed before entering high school. When asked about upcoming excitements and experiences, she said "she will be able to |

MLK Jr. and the Distortion of Communal AmbitionThe fundamental question asked by virtually every freshman who takes HUM2305 at the University of Florida is the very title of the course: "What is the 'Good Life'?" So, what is it? At its very core, the notion of the "Good Life" is the idea of a world in balance, the idea of a world where unification and peace exist among its citizens. While many positive strides have been made by societies seeking to achieve the "Good Life," every action to this end has a consequence that manifests itself as a cost to the "Good Life" and its yearned-for attainment. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., in his "Letter from a Birmingham Jail," and Dr. Melissa Lane, in her common lecture on what she has dubbed "sustainable citizenship," present the refusal to fight for social justice and the common good as one such action that imposes a psychological cost to the "Good Life" by distorting its very essence as a communal ambition and making |

Saturday Morning CleaningsAh it's Saturday! A day to relax, play outside, or watch Saturday cartoons. Then you hear my mom yell "Come on son, it's time to clean!" Now you would get to have fun and such on Saturdays but first cleaning the house had to be done. It was not a hard task since it was my mom and us two kids but it did take time. We each had our own certain tasks of what we would do and where we would clean and we usually did those same things every Saturday. We divided the house into four parts: The bedrooms, the bathrooms, the kitchen and the living room in that order. Reason being is because the way our house was built, the bedrooms and the bathrooms were at one end of the house while the kitchen was at the other end of the house. Which meant the living room was in the middle of the house. So my mom liked to clean from the ends of the house towards the middle so once an area was cleaned, we wouldn't have to go back over that area to get to another area. Each of us knew how to clean each area, so if we rotated o |

North Korea and the Help We Must GiveThroughout the years, we have seen the lives of the North Korean people deal with much violence, threats, suffering and inequality. It is our time to step in and help these people. There are many strategies on dealing with this problem, yet the best one that we could take as America is help the North Korean people by supplying them with foreign things and military weapons in order to help them rebel against their government and horrible dictator. The reason as to why this plan would work is because one, the North Korean people will be enraged once they find out the truth, giving them more strength to fight back. Two, if we supply the people with military weapons they will they have more power to fight against their government and their leader due to the fact that they have weapons that can protect them. And lasty, if more and more people learn about these things more are willing to fight back even if that means that they jeopardize their life. According to BCC, North Korea is a "totalitarian state" meaning the government subordinates the individual to the state and strictly regulates rules that can not be broken. Due |

2016: The Election of the CenturyThe 2016 election is one that could take a turn for the better, or for the worst. Both Hillary Clinton, the democratic party candidate, and Donald Trump, the republican party candidate, are unique candidates in their own ways, mostly by belief. Even though Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton have many political disagreements, they both have similar standpoints on several of the current issues. They also have some unique ways in solving them by their own methods. The current tax rate is the first topic both candidates disagree upon, some believe the current income tax rate is tremendously high for the upper class, along with tax on businesses and industries in America. Trump believes that the current tax rate on local business and industry ( 35%) is tremendously high, and seeks to reduce this down to at least 15% (People 56). Clinton, however, does not see use in lowering this tax rate in any way. She even would like to increase income tax on the more wealthy, who earned their money like most other Americans have. Clinton seeks to give this taxed money to the lower class who do not have nearly as much as the upper class. Gun control is an important topic in |

Genotype by SequencingIntroduction There have been various advances in the sequencing technology of DNA. These technologies have revolutionized the genotyping of populations. Among these developments is the genotype by sequencing (GBS), which has been created as an effective approach in reducing the complications realized in sequencing multiple genotyping. This has been considered as the most cost friendly and flexible approach in sequencing in application of genetics in plants and breeding. Learning genotype by sequencing is important in getting to create an understanding the connection that lies between genetic factors, and phenotypes, genotypes, and plant breeding. This paper discusses GBS as an important term in plant genetics, its purpose, and the use that it can be in genetic studies. Genotype by Sequencing Genotype by sequencing is a procedure that reduces the genome species and complexity using restriction enzymes. This procedure has been considered as flexible, quick and reliable since it reac |

Danforth - Villain of The CrucibleIn Arthur Miller's play, The Crucible, many characters make selfish choices that hurt others, even to the extent of their deaths. The most hypocritical and damaging character is Danforth, whose unwillingness to recognize that he was wrong, and his insistence on his way of thinking meant that twenty people were executed unnecessarily. He is a villain. Danforth begins the trials with the opinion that there are witches in Salem. He does not question the testimony in any way. It's illogical. In today's world there needs to be proof that someone is guilty, but Danforth proceeds with the idea that if someone cannot prove he/she is not a witch, then there is guilt. "In an ordinary crime, how does one defend the accused? One calls up witnesses to prove his innocence. But witchcraft is an invisible crime, is it not? Therefore, who may be witness to it? The witch and the victim. None other." (93) This type of thinking creates a trial where the accused must prove |

Grandmother in A Good Man is Hard to FindIn Flannery O'Connor's "A Good Man Is Hard to Find", the grandmother is the central character in the short story. She is a judgmental, selfish, and conniving woman who refuses to let anything stand in the way of getting what she desires. Priding herself on being a lady, the grandmother strives to make sure everyone is aware of this fact. In the end, she manipulates the family into taking a detour, ultimately costing them their lives. At the beginning of the story, the family prepares for a vacation to Florida. The grandmother does not want to go to Florida, she would rather go to Tennessee. This allows the reader the first glimpse of her manipulations. She proceeds to tell her son about a criminal, known as The Misfit, who has escaped from prison and is reported to be moving toward Florida. After she plants that seed, she continues all attempts to convince him that |

Liberals versus ConservativesWe all want the same things in life. We want freedom; we want the chance for prosperity; we want to be the best we can be; we want as few people suffering as possible, economically; we want healthy children; we want to have crime-free streets; all these things, they're pretty common. The argument is how to achieve them. Liberals and conservatives are essential to the workings of representative democracies. Liberals are represented by the Democratic Party and are called the left wing, while conservatives are represented by the Republican Party and are called the right wing. Although we cannot always detect clear differences between the two, conservatives and liberals both offer different views about the role of government in society. These differences are most clearly demonstrated by their views on issues such as education, taxes, public health care, the environment, and national defense. Conservatives and liberals disagree about where education dollars should be spent. The liberal be |

Eulogy for Diana: A Rhetorical AnalysisEulogy for Diana: A Rhetorical Analysis Following Princess Diana's tragic and unexpected death in 1997, her younger brother, 9th Earl Spencer, gave a speech during her service, representing his family members in grief. The eulogy was delivered at the state funeral of Diana, Princess of Wales, in Westminster Abbey on 6th of September, 1997. In his speech, Spencer expresses personal grief and demonstrates deep appreciation and respect for his deceased sister. His eulogy was a particularly powerful one, considering the unique circumstances surrounding Princess Diana's death: her on-going feud with the royal family and her tumultuous relationship with the media. The oration was broadcasted worldwide and provoked strong feelings from the public. In his reverent yet sober eulogy for Princess Diana, Earl Spencer, an author, print journalist, and younger brother to Diana, recalls some of her remarkable characteristics in order to celebrate the ordinary humanity, and not so much the celebrity |

Trifles - Innocent Until Proven GuiltyThey say a person is innocent until proven guilty in the United States, but sometimes the opposite is true, as is the case in the play Trifles, by Susan Glaspell. The men speculate that the murder suspect, Mrs. Wright, is a looney housewife before they even thoroughly investigate the crime scene. Their chauvinistic attitude towards women drives Mrs. Hale and Mrs. Peters into creating an unspoken bond with Mrs. Wright. They view the evidence from Mrs. Wright's perspective and examine it systematically and rationally, without bias or prejudice to uncover the truth. Shortly after the characters arrive at the crime scene, Mrs. Wrights' integrity is besieged by the county attorney, the sheriff and even the neighbor, Mr. Hale. The county attorney speculates that Mrs. Wright will "have something more serious than preserves to worry about" (446) prior to any real investigation taking place. This demonstrates that the county attorney is already leaning towards Mrs. Wright being the m |

Adventures in ReadingI remember my third grade teacher reading a Junie B. Jones book out loud in class during our story time. That year I had learned not all books were filled with colorful pictures and never ending rhymes. My teacher took the class to our school library and taught us how it worked. Each book had it's own genre and its own creator in which the books were organized by. Thanks to Mrs.Bean, my teacher, introducing Junie to me, I picked up on the whole series. After finishing the rest of Junie B. Jones, I moved onto a variety of mystery books and more importantly, Magic Tree House books. The stories were so adventurous which satisfied my wide imagination. After some growing up and reading more, all I read were chapter books which were mostly required to read for English or Writing classes. Sometimes I enjoyed the books. Other times, I dreaded the books. In middle school, I read The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn for an English class. I was so infatuated by the book that I read a couple more books written |
