Hip Hop Dance Class ObservationI was immediately hit with a view of trendy, young, energetic dancers. They were all dressed very "hip hop" or "street". Many of the females wore fitted sweats, while others wore baggy ones. Some girls dressed a little more feminine but still kept it hip hop. For example, a female dancer wore spandex shorts, a crop top, and an old school looking flannel tied around her waist. Nearly all the dancers had nice sneakers on, mostly Nike or Jordans. The guys had t-shirts, some plain, some from well known brands such as Stussy. I was instantly drawn in by their style! It was so refreshing seeing a group of people all be so in sync with their sense of style, from their clothes to their walk. They definitely all possessed a certain swagger. I always assumed dancers dressed in comfy workout clothes to dance class, but I was wrong. I guess dancers want to keep it fun and incorporate their hip hop roots in their clothes even when their not doing a final performance. I admired |

Organizational Concepts of Human Resorce ManagementHuman Resource Management has over the years been propelled as a primary business function for continued organizational competitiveness by such factors such as changing societal values, global nature of competition, constant revisions of employment law and new and ever dynamic employee expectations among others. The emergence of Human Resource Management as a solution for integrating people management and business strategy has exhibited personnel practitioners to the new set of management expectations, role demands and professional challenges (Losey, Meisinger, and Ulrich, 2005). The ethical implications of these expectations and demands and are significant and need to be extensively analyzed. The essential factors that determine the success of an organization are the quality of the people employed, human resource or employers. As a result, consultants must ensure that effective method, procedures, processes, and practices are applied in the resourcing of employees (Sims, 2007). So as |

The Lolita ConceptIn the early 2000s, young female entertainers became a huge trend in South Korea. Countless young female dancer-singers and celebrities, who are mostly under nineteen years of age, debut on various types of TV programs. Directed by many heads of entertainment companies, young female celebrities are assigned a sexy and dollish concept, which have been most effective to attract teenage fans and adult fans between 20s and 40s. Amongst countless idols, a solo girl-idol, IU, is possibly the most famous example. IU is known for her adorable, pure, and childlike image, as well as her talent in highly skillful singing and composing abilities. Perhaps these skills convinced the audience and fans that her presented image is authentic. Recently, she debuted with a new album which gave her even more fame than before. The new album, "23", was themed around the "Lolita Concept," and it certainly attracted fans and internet users after they have watched the music video. The provoc |

Wanting What We HaveThroughout my childhood, I wanted to go to a foreign university to get a masters degree. The day I got my acceptance letter I was filled with joy. My dreams had found their wings and I was to fly to the land of endless opportunities, USA. However after landing in the country of milk and honey, my happiness soon turned into a big disappointment. The excitement I had felt upon was engulfed by loneliness, cultural difference, and stress. I felt loneliness in terms of being away from my family. I faced a huge cultural shock in terms of the language barrier and food issues. Also, the course workload was huge and caused a lot of stress and anxiety. Hailing from a big joint family in India, where I was constantly surrounded by my parents, aunts, uncles and cousins, it was very hard for me to |

The Truth About Helicopter ParentingHelicopter Parenting Helicopter parenting is a parent who is overly involved in the life of his or her child. Some people believe that helicopter parenting can be advantageous for the child, but others think it's harmful to today's children. When the kids are in high school, and after they turn 18, 19, and 20, their parents try to be involved in their child's life. Helicopter parenting and bubble-wrapping the child is harmful to children because they need to solve problems on their own, they will rebel on their parents, and every child needs room to grow. Children wouldn't go through live if they don't solve their problems on their own. From the article, "For Some, Helicopter Parenting Delivers Benefits" by Don Aucion, Don mentioned "there are horrible extremes that helicopter parents' can go to, where they don't allow their |

Influential Book: The 7 Habits of Highly Effective PeopleStephen Covey once stated that "life doesn't just happen" (56). It is carefully designed by us and we are responsible for our own happiness. Life is full of wonders and complexities. After reading Covey's 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, I was inspired and have encouraged me to rethink how my views about life and the world change. In this book, the author explains principles that give someone the comfort to adapt to change and the wisdom to take control and full advantage of the opportunities that professional and personal lives create. He describes the Maturity Continuum which moves us progressively from dependence to independence to interdependence. The 7 Habits are tools that provide an approach to the development of personal and interpersonal effectiveness. The following content will further explain how the seven habits influenced my professional and personal life as an individual. Covey's first habit teaches us about the importance of being proactive. The Skepticism and Politics of Climate ChangeThe "hockey stick" describes a reconstruction of temperatures over the past 1000 to 2000 years using tree-rings, ice cores, coral and other records that act as proxies for temperature (Mann 1999). The reconstruction found that global temperature gradually cooled over the last 1000 years with a sharp upturn in the 20th Century. The principal result from the hockey stick is that global temperatures over the last few decades are the warmest in the last 1000 years. A central and critical plank of the alarmist global warming case is that the current phase of warming that started in the late 19th century is unprecedented. This claim is important because a similar or greater warming phase has occurred in the very recent past, before human CO2 emissions had caused CO2 levels to rise, then clearly any such recent warming must have been natural and was not caused by CO2. And if any recent similar warming phase was natural then clearly the current phase of warming could also be a natur |

The Story of Tom Brennan by J.C. BurkeThe story of Tom Brennan by J.C Burke starts with a tragic car accident that includes a young driver by the name of Daniel who's had too much to drink, goes too fast and instantly kills two for his friends and leaves his cousin Fin paralysed. This has completed broken toms family and this is shown through this visual representation. Techniques and themes that are used within this visual representation include loss and regret, guilt and insight and growth. The accident was a major turning point in the lives of the Brennan family who find themselves having to leave their town Mumbilli and go live with their grandmother in Coghill. Both parents and children struggle to make sense of what is happening in their lives and shock, grief and regret threaten to overwhelm them and shatter their confidence and self esteem. I'm the drawing you can see the sadness on the whole families face as they are dealing with the loss of their son and brother Daniel, who is currently in gaol. The red ute symbolise the loss of their son and the anger they feel with having to leave their home town to live with their grandmother. The ute is also crashed as it symboli |

Score/Score by Phyllis Gotlieb AnalysisIn the world of "Score/Score" by Phyllis Gotlieb, there is an overabundance of robots and machines in the world, with the human population being very low. It shows us this "teaching machine" who has thought and feelings, having similar behaviors as the humans around them. This "teaching machine" hates his job, feeling his talents are being wasted by having to teach sixth grade English. There is shown that there are robots for teaching, and also ones who pretend to be students to keep the teaching machines sharp with the current lack of actual human students. The teaching machine is betrayed by the fake student robot and has to have its memory wiped. Entering the world of "Score/Score" the computer-printout format used by the writer affects the way in which readers read the story, creating a blocky form of reading. Sociological Imagination - Troubles and Public IssuesThe term of sociological imagination was provided by C. Wright Mills in order to explain the connections between the life of the individual and the phenomenon which is related to the social life. In my opinion, the concept of "sociological imagination" provides humanitarian grounds (primarily) disciplines to get away from one-dimensionality and not to be tied to any particular place or identity. Therefore, trying to see the current situation and the particular person in it as a consistent change of certain trends, ages, political slogans, can be more accurately (and humanistic understanding) to understand Israelis who attack Palestinians, the right-hander in Poland or return to the style and ideology of curves thirties of the last century in modern Russia. All this knowledge on history, international politics make possible the clear understanding of the individual (ie, personal history, education, gender is also taken into account) at a certain point of history and territory. An important characteristic of the sociological imagination is the understanding that any modern social phenom |

My Dad, the HandymanMy dad is an amazing person at heart, but when it comes down to patience or new technology, he's the last person you would want to see. He's a hardworking man, who is a great father figure, and he'd give his last penny to help anyone out. When I was six years old, he used to take me up to our old church to clean it every Friday night, and he drove his white 1978 Chrysler Newport we called "The Boat" because it would cut off at random times, and he would let it roll until it started back up; just like the sail of a boat catching the wind. We were outside every weekend fixing something on it, he never let me get under the hood, I would just watch and listen to him teach. He's an expert when it comes to cars. If someone had a problem, he could tell you exactly what it was if you gave him the sound, smell or feeling. As I grew older, I started to take after my dad doing everything he taught me, and he always told me this "Do the job right so you won't have to do it twice" which means, don't slack when you're tired because you're working yourself twice as hard rather than w |

Chemical Conversions and ReactionsBoron reacts with halogens to give the corresponding trihalides. Boron trichloride is, however, produced industrially by direct chlorination of boron oxide and carbon at 500 °C. B2O3 + 3C + 3Cl2 → 2BCl3 + 3CO The carbothermic reaction is analogous to the Kroll process for the conversion of titanium dioxide to titanium tetrachloride. In the laboratory BF3 reacted with AlCl3 gives BCl3 via halogen exchange. BCl3 is a trigonal planar molecule like the other boron trihalides, and has a bond length of 175pm. A degree of π-bonding has been proposed to explain the short B− Cl distance although there is some debate as to its extent. It does not dimerize, although NMR studies of mixtures of boron trihalides shows the presence of mixed halides. The absences of dimerisation contrasts with the tendencies of AlCl3 and GaCl3, which form dimers or polymers with 4 or 6 coordinate metal centres. Nitrogen and hydrogen are both non-metals. A nitrogen atom has 5 electrons in its outer shell. Nitro |

The Practice of Good Time ManagementTime management is important in any situation and most people have difficulty getting started. Time management is a skill that you have to learn. Time management is a lifestyle. The best place to begin working on time management is by changing your behaviors and your environment. The definition of time management is: getting everything done in the allotted amount of time. It is a budgeting process of effectively using the time you have and getting rid of "useless" time. Organizing your activities in a sequence that best utilizes your time. Time management includes your personal life and business life. Time management is the efficiency of your time. Analyze your current time and think how you can make better use of your time. One of the greatest assets a business can have is an employee who uses his or her time to its fullest potential. Time management is not an instinct, and instead, must be learned. Unfortunately, few schools or parents teach children basic time manage |

Utilitarianism and the Death PenaltyThe act of murdering is one of the most heinous acts as well as premeditated murder if an individual is willing to sit back. Moreover, think of ways to take someone's life then they should also think of the back of their minds they will be killed if they kill. If an individual acquires another person against their will whether it be male or female and tortures, rapes, and kills just for their gratification, they also should know that they will be put to death. Serial killers will keep killing no matter what. That is why they need to be put to death so they could never be released in hurt and kill another individual. Child molesters are like serial killers they will never stop molesting children so they should also be put to death. Because when put back out on the streets, they will molest and rape another child so even if they do not kill these children they should still be put to death. Therefore, murder-kidnapping and raping of a child should be sentenced to death because it is our d |

Obesity: What the Government Should Be DoingObesity is an issue that is growing to be a bigger problem with each passing day. A matter that should be looked at is what the government is doing to help out and try to diminish the growing problem of obesity. The government has a big influence on what society does and if they put effort into helping out the cause of obesity than maybe people will change their ways. One way this can be done is if the government puts all of their muscle into education that is aimed at shifting our social norms and inform our society on their nutritional values. The government can also place food takes on less-healthy foods through a "sin" tax which would be similar to those already imposed on things such as alcohol, lottery tickets, and cigarettes. If physical education was something that was mandatory for our youth, there could be a positive outcome due to our youth being active and educated on the importance of taking part in some sort of physical activity on a daily basis. Losing Confidence on My First Day of SchoolAs I walked into the small room I shared with three other students at the male hostel, I wanted to slam the door behind me to signal my frustration. However, the door slowly slid shut as I did not have any strength left to pull off such antics. I felt sore all over my body and felt numb in muscles I never knew I had. Most painfully, I felt empty and washed out on my inside, not because I had not eaten anything but a sodden doughnut all day but because today seemed to be a miniature version of all the rat-races of everybody in the world put together – it had been both grueling and unrewarding. Today had been my first day at my new school, State Polytechnic, Jigawa. I had left the room this morning brimming with energy, confidence, enthusiasm, and everything else that I don't seem to have any longer. The first thing that dropped off along the way, very early after I set out, was my confidence. Because I had come into the scho |

Life and Pollination of European HoneybeesPollinators uphold ecosystems all over the planet; they are essentially the main distributers of all of our major food crops here on earth. Up to 80% of all plant species are pollinated mostly by insects and nearly three-quarters of the world's most common crops require insect pollination, some of these crops include tea, chili, berries, alfalfa, coffee, fruits, and nuts! In Texas, bees carry out most pollination but we do have other native pollinators such as bats, hummingbirds, butterflies, moths, wasps, flies, and beetles. For the purpose of this research assignment, I have chosen the European Honeybee (Apis Mellifera) to study and take a closer look into what exactly this honeybee does in aiding the pollination process around Texas. Comparison of 1984 and The Handmaid's TaleDystopian rule meets success when individuality has been removed from the individual: the humanity from the human. Only once people have become numbers – 'one of' as opposed to 'one', can a ruling body be in true command. Good morning all and welcome to this morning's seminar presentation, today I will be exploring with you the conventions of dystopian literature. George Orwell's 1984 and Margaret Atwood's The Handmaid's Tale are prime examples of societies where civilians are forced to live by the totalitarian government's subdual of sexual expression, to safeguard the government's own goals and aspirations. The denial of sexuality in both texts is a perfect demonstration of the kinds of control exhibited over citizens by ruling powers, which ultimately exist to ensure undivided loyalty to both regimes and upholding of piety, virtue and purity that are cherished by the authorities. The association of sexuality with individualism and confidentiality is a threat to bo |

Feminism in Macbeth and Antigone"A woman without a man is like a fish without a bicycle." These words spoken by Gloria Steinem, leader for the feminist movement in the late 1960s, shatter the traditional patriarchal perceptions that our society is based upon. Throughout the history of humanity, men have taken precedence over women, acting as the head of the family, the hero in battle, and the leader of nations. Consequently, women have been diminished to the role of housekeeping, taking care of the kids, and preparing meals for the family. In any case, there is a clear distinction of the difference in power between the two sexes-one gender always dominates over the other. Power, in terms of the Feminist Theory, must be the domination of one gender over the other in a superior manner, will, and authority. Though conventional patriarchal beliefs seem to perpetuate the dominance of men and subordination of women, Shakespeare and Sophocles seem to question the validity of those beliefs in their plays, Macbeth a |

My Educational PhilosophyIn beginning my journey defining my personal educational philosophy, one that is sure to develop and advance with time, my beliefs and opinions most closely identify with the social reconstructionist philosophy. Because there are many intersections between reconstructionism and experimentalism, I consider myself to also align with certain aspects of an experimentalist, as well. My personal philosophy is outlined and clarified through the examination of seven questions: What is the essence/goal of education? How should education provide for the needs of the people? What should the environment of education or atmosphere of the school be? How should appropriate learning occur and what should be the preferred teaching method? What should the curriculum include? What is the role of the teacher? What is the nature of the learner? As a social reconstructionist, it is my belief that the heart of education should lay in the foundation of growth through social action. Considering the reconstru |

Child Labor in Second and Third World CountriesChild labor continues to be a problem in many Second and Third world countries today. Multiple products produced by children as young as 13 and 14 years of age are on the market in the United States, as well as other countries around the world. Although child labor may seem barbaric to some, it is actually a necessity for survival in many Second and Third world countries. Some Americans assume that child labor in these countries is harmful; however, in reality, children in these countries are responsible for contributing to family income and are an integral part of the workforce. Whereas the American government is trying to fight child labor in Second and Third world countries, impoverished countries are willing to fight because it is a way of life for these families and their survival depends on it. It seems that many Americans are narrow-minded when it comes to child labor in Second and Third world countries. Because of the luxurious circumstances, or at least the contentment, in wh |

Descartes and Meditations on PhilosophyRene Descartes once proposed a tedious accusation about dreaming, and how our senses that we use to perceive what is considered reality should not be trusted fully. In the Meditations on First Philosophy, Descartes attempts to convey the fascinating illusion of always being in a dream without a certain ability to distinguish what is actually reality or what is a dream, or at bare minimum prove that there are no certain marks to prove otherwise. He states, "as I think about this more carefully, I see plainly that there are never any sure signs by means of which being awake can be distinguished from being asleep. The result is that I begin to feel dazed, and this very feeling only reinforces the notion that I may be asleep" (First Meditation). In my attempts to contrast what Descartes argument was comprised of and what certain illusions made him feel this way about our perception of physical existence. I turned my attention to his famous dream argument originally brought forth |
