Julius Caesar

"Veni, vidi, vici" - "I came, I saw, I conquered". These are the words of world's one of the greatest generals, who was born in 100 B.C. That was very chaotic time for Roman Empire. Caesar's family was patricians, Rome's aristocracy, but they were not rich or influential, because there were not a lot of patricians left at Rome during difficult for society time ("Caesar, Julius", Encyclopedia Britannica for Yahoo!). Someone had to help Rome to overcome this period and Caesar was the one. He was great orator and strategy maker and most important he was the man of a strong nature and great mind. He was a person whom Rome needed to return itself mightiness. Julius Caesar went trough long path to become who he was. His perseverance is what made what he was and what I respect.
There are many things about Caesar that had an impact the way I look at history and why I like it. Caesar was the great leader and had all needed characteristics that leadership requires. We need more leaders like Caesar. First of all, Caesar was very brave man. He showed in many different situations, even before he started a political career. When Consul Sulla, in 82 B.C., returned to Rome and made a Senate declare him dictator for life, Julius Caesar was in his early 20s. Sulla demanded that Caesar divorce his wife, who was a daughter of Sulla's enemy ("Julius Caesar", Rachel Sahlman). Caesar knew that he can be killed, but he refused and clandestinely left the Rome. He didn't return until Sulla died in 78 B.C. He understood that in Rome people believe leaders who can talk nicely and convince public in the truth of his words, so people will vote for him. So, he traveled to Rhodes to study rhetoric. When his wife died, on funeral orations he used his rhetorical skills. Caesar caught the attention of Crassus, rich and powerful former Praetor, and, most importantly, public. He became hugely popular between people, which helped him to become Praetor in 62 B.
